Dniester Canyon National Nature Park preserves a spectacular section of the Dniester River's canyon, offering dramatic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and diverse outdoor recreation opportunities amid one of Eastern Europe's most impressive river gorges.
Established in 2010, Dniester Canyon National Nature Park protects approximately 25 kilometers of the Dniester River gorge located in western Ukraine's Ternopil Oblast. This park showcases striking limestone cliffs rising up to 50 meters above the river, numerous caves, rapids, and scenic overlooks that provide stunning views of the canyon’s rugged terrain. The park's diverse ecosystems support over 900 species of plants, including several rare and endemic species, as well as numerous mammals, birds, amphibians, and fish. The Dniester canyon itself is a geological marvel, carved over millennia by the flowing river, featuring unique karst landforms and biodiverse riparian habitats. Visitors are drawn to the park for hiking along well-marked trails that traverse forests, meadows, and riverbanks, as well as rock climbing on limestone cliffs and kayaking or rafting through the river's exciting rapids. Birdwatchers and nature photographers appreciate the rich fauna and scenic viewpoints. The area also holds archeological and historical significance with ancient settlements and cultural landmarks near the canyon. Its relatively remote location provides an immersive nature experience, attracting outdoor enthusiasts seeking to explore one of Ukraine’s natural treasures.
